Individuals who are entitled to benefits under Medicare
Part A and/or are enrolled in Part B are eligible for Part D,
Medicare's prescription drug coverage.
The Medicare Modernization Act (MMA) requires
employers whose policies include prescription drug coverage to
notify Medicare eligible policyholders if their prescription drug
coverage is creditable coverage. Creditable coverage means the
coverage is expected to pay on average as much as standard Medicare
prescription drug coverage.
Notice must be provided to all Medicare Part D individuals
enrolled, or seeking to enroll, in your plan, including spouses and
dependents. Due to the fact that employers may not know which
individuals are Part D eligible, many employers distribute the
notice to all individuals eligible to enroll in the plan to ensure
that all part D eligible individuals are notified.
Medicare Part D Notices must be delivered prior to
Medicare's Annual Coordinated Enrollment Period (ACEP)
October 15th through December 7th.
